About
This is a demo that I made several years ago. I apologize for the tape hiss, but at the time I had only analog recording equipment. Using two cassette recorders, I first recorded a piano track, then I played it back and added a second instrument, recording on the second tape recorder. I then played back the second tape recorder adding another instrument or passage to the song, recording that on the first recorder. I did this back and forth until I had the whole song. It was a convoluted way of recording, but I made do with what I had. About a year later I composed the introduction and was able to record that on a small digital keyboard. Later still, I was able to use GarageBand to merge the two parts.
As most musicians know, a person cannot easily convert an analog form consisting of numerous parts to a digital (midi) form. Recording in a digital form is what I hope to accomplish if there is enough interest and support for the song. There are several small changes that I would like to make.
Please note that with the exception of the picture of the volcanos and the second picture of the Gazebo, none of the other pictures are of Colima, Colima, Mexico. The reason for this is that a person can be removed from YouTube if there is an issue concerning copyright. Most of the pictures were taken from pexels.com and are licensed as free to use with no attribution required, and can be edited and modified.
My favorite music “genre,” if I may use that word, is heavily influenced by many composers and lyricists of the ’40s through the 60’s such as Rogers and Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, David Gates, Neil Diamond, and even the Beatles. Actually, there are many others. Those were the days when we sang about love and, beautiful mornings and even such simple subjects as a flower (think Edelweiss). Today all too much of so-called music is filled with hatred and profanity. As I once heard Irving Berlin comment almost verbatim: “Today’s music is all percussion and no story, no melody.” I would add that many songs take a single word or phrase and simply beat it to death, repeating it over and over.
The words and music of my song are copyrighted and are registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. Furthermore, this song is protected against infringement in all foreign jurisdictions that are members of the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works.
Writing a song is one thing, but promoting it is quite another. Many artists, writers, and songwriters promote their works through websites such as Kickstarter, GoFundMe, or Patreon; however, many of them already have a catalog of materials or have made a promise to provide future works. While I do have a notebook of songs and song ideas that I have accumulated over the years, I would rather not make any commitments that I cannot keep. Also, although I am familiar with Apple computers, this is a completely new venture for me.
My objective is twofold:
1) If possible, raise enough money to purchase a medium-priced digital keyboard. A person may listen to about 3/4 of the song without charge. If he/she is interested in helping me promote the song then they may either purchase the complete demo for 99¢ or make a donation using the “Thanks” icon above. I’ve used this icon myself in support of some other channels on YouTube, but it appears rather impersonal, in so much as the acknowledgments appeared to be only a receipt that came several days later. In using the PayPal option I will try to program it so that I can keep track of those who purchase, and also provide an immediate acknowledgment and thank you.
2) Gain enough views that might possibly attract an agent or publishing company.
As you can see, I am in need of a singer. If you or someone you know might be interested, feel free to contact me. I can be reached at [email protected]. I welcome any comments, suggestions, or criticisms that you might have, and will do my best to reply via email.
One final comment: I have declined to request an ad in support of this channel; however, YouTube may attach such an ad, and rightfully so. They deserve to be compensated for an excellent vehicle that permits people like me to be heard.
